Pro Wrestling Needs Classification
In my experience, athletic commissions in pro wrestling have been nothing more than an annoyance. If athletic commissions are to exist and take earnings from the promoters and finally the wrestlers, they need to first decree how they are going to classify the sport. Further, any society or private who operates in an "official capacity" where they make legal and leading decisions such as judges and arbitrators should be able to look up the classification of the sport when presiding over a case spicy a pro wrestler.
Is it Fake, Real, or Neither
This is a subject that I am quite passionate about because I was recently involved in an incident where the classification of my sport became an issue. I was attacked by person and had to physically defend myself. I was discriminated against in legal proceedings because I am a old pro wrestler. The arbitrator in the case made an unfavorable decision based on his own plan of pro wrestling even after he had demonstrated in contradicting statements that he didn't honestly know a thing about it. If there had been a uniform classification, this arbitrator would have had something more to base his decision on.
Credibility and the "Art of Pro Wrestling"
With uniform classification and rules, together with protection regulations and blood tests, athletic commissions could honestly bring more credibility to the sport and even force the entertainment to be generated mostly in the ring, instead of in the stands or the parking lot. The wrestlers would once again have to use their talent in the "art of pro wrestling" to entertain the crowd and headlocks and hammerlocks would make a big comeback.
Classified as What?
Let's be optimistic and say that the athletic commissions of each state and province etc. Come up with a uniform classification, what would it be? Should it be classified as fake? I can say that after fifteen years in pro wrestling, I have never determined it to be fake. Should it be classified as real? Well, sometimes it is very real and sometimes it's not. In my defense, I never said that I had all of the answers and it may well take person smarter than I to decree how to classify pro wrestling, but be that as it may, it still needs to be done.
